Hello ladies and gents this is the Viking telling you that today we are talking about
5.things you didn’t know about Sandi Toksvig
1. Her on-screen career started in kids' TV
Way before she was fronting Bake Off and QI, Sandi starred as Ethel in Saturday morning kids’ show No.73 on ITV, before appearing in its spin-off The Sandwich Quiz and other children’s programmes.
2. She has been performing since her school days
Sandi studied law, archaeology and anthropology at Girton College, Cambridge University, where she joined the Footlights Dramatic Club and performed in its first all-women show.
3. She recently achieved an incredible body transformation
Sandi shrunk from a size 22 to a size 10 in 12 months by following the Louise Parker Method.
She showed off her new look on the February 2015 issue of Good Houskeeping magazine, and spoke about how her weight loss has hugely benefited her lifestyle.
‘When I first started I couldn’t touch my knees. Now I can run 5K no problem,’ she said.
4. She’s a campaigner for women’s rights
Sandi is co-founder of the Women’s Equality Party, and is passionate about furthering women’s rights and equality between the sexes.
Speaking about gender inequality in her line of work, Sandi told Digital Spy: ‘The gender imbalance is still not great on TV. And it brings a different tone to a show when a woman's in charge, that's all. It's not like we're funnier or better or any of those things - it's a different tone, and why not have the full range?
'I think we're quite a long way from that - in my lifetime I've lost work for being a woman. I didn't get Have I Got News For You… and they told me it was because I was a woman.’
5. She has a rather strange fear
According to OK!, during an appearance on BBC One’s The TV That Made Me, Sandi confessed to a slightly odd fear of puppet Basil Brush.
‘I don't know what it was - it creeped me out,’ Sandi said. Fair enough.
